President Paul Kagame has inaugurated fuel depots in Rusororo, Gasabo district, Kigali city with the capacity of storing 22 million litres.
The fuel depots were built by Societe Petroliere Ltd (SP) which supplies fuel.
President Kagame has commended SP for building such depots expected to contribute a lot to national development.
The depots are will boost the country’s fuel storage capacity.
Kagame lauded construction of the depots which he said is a demonstration of what can be achieved when the government and private sector work together for development.
“ Such strength realized through cooperation can help us achieve more. Our thoughts and acts must be focused. We must not be left behind. It is up to private investors to keep partnering with the government to invest in infrastructures and find solutions to development challenges,” he said.
“Technology used is this depot enables its good functioning and ensures safety. We hope this project will keep expanding to a desired level within a short time. These depots enable us feel closer to the port as fuel takes time along the way to be brought here,” he added.
Kagame said the government will try by all means to make conditions for investment more favorable.
The facilities add to existing fuel depots respectively located in Gatsata with the capacity of storing 15 million liters and Kabuye deport with 5 million liters. Others include the fuel depot at Kanombe International Airport and Rwabuye in Southern Province.
In collaboration with companies supplying fuel, the government targets to increase fuel storage capacity by 150 million liters to become self-sufficient.
